This website is operated by Alighieri Ltd. Throughout the site, the terms “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Alighieri. Alighieri offers this Website, including all information, tools and services available from this site to you, the user, conditioned upon your acceptance of all terms and conditions stated here.

By visiting our site and/or purchasing something from us, you engage in our “Service” and agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions.

No person under the age of 18 years may purchase Goods. If you are under 18, please confer with an adult to make your purchase.

Our store is hosted on Shopify Inc. They provide us with the online e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products and services to you.

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.

Our contract with you

These terms and conditions apply: so far as the context allows, to you as a visitor to Our Website; and in any event to you as a buyer or prospective buyer of our Goods.

We will accept your order by way of email confirmation. That is when our contract is made. Our email will also confirm details of your purchase and tell you when we will dispatch your order.

We may change these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to you are those posted here on Our Website on the day you order Goods.

If in future, you buy Goods from us under any arrangement which does not involve your payment via Our Website, these terms still apply.

Your account with us

You agree that you have provided and will continue to provide accurate and complete information about yourself. We require this information to provide you with the Goods that you order.

If you use the website, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and password and for preventing any unauthorised person from using your account.

You agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account and password. If you believe your account has been accessed without your authority, you should immediately inform us and log in to your account and change your password.

You agree that any username or email address selected by you, does not interfere with the rights of any third party and has not been selected for any unlawful purpose and that if we believe such selection does interfere with the rights of any third party or is being selected for any unlawful purpose, we may suspend the use of such name or email address, and you will indemnify us for any claim or demand that arises out of your selection.

We reserve the right to refuse you access to Our Website at any time.

Our Products

We do our best to ensure the images of the Products give you a good indication of what they look like in our showroom. However, please note that images are for illustrative purposes only. Although we make every effort to display Products accurately, as they are handmade, it is not always possible to accurately reflect colour, size, dimensions and texture through digital displays on web browsers. Your Products therefore may vary slightly from the images displayed on our Website.

Bespoke Products

The Alighieri bespoke service invites you to create a timeless, one of a kind Modern Heirloom with us. If you are interested in creating a Bespoke Product, please contact us via email on clients@alighieri.co.uk. One of our team will then be in touch to discuss the creation of your Bespoke Product. If you have any particular pieces you like already please do let us know; you can see our current collection of diamond rings here. We will also need your timeline and a rough budget, and if you are looking to create a bespoke ring we will also need your ring size.

If you'd like diamonds and gemstones, that is usually where we start; we will source a selection of beautiful stones for you to choose from. Once you've chosen your stone, a wax mock-up of the piece will be created and you'll be invited to either come into our London Showroom to see it in person, or we can send you images.

We want to get the design perfect for you before we go ahead with production, so this process can take as little as two weeks, but can take a little longer if there are amendments to be made to the design.

Once the design is signed off, we will require a 50% deposit in order to put a Bespoke Product into production. You are under no obligation to buy up until the point the deposit is paid. It should then take around 4 weeks to create your finished piece. If you need something quicker than this, please do let us know as soon as possible during the process, and we will do our best to accommodate. The remaining balance is due upon collection or shipment of the final piece.

Once your Bespoke Product is ready, we will contact you to arrange collection or delivery. All Bespoke Products are shipped and insured via DHL.

Please be aware that as Bespoke Products are one-offs, they cannot be returned for a refund or exchange.

If for any reason you need to cancel an order for a Bespoke Product, please contact us as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to cancel your Bespoke order, and only charge you the deposit. However this will not always be possible, and the full price will therefore need to be paid.

Made to Order Products

Products bought from our Website that are made to order will take approximately 4-6 weeks to be produced and delivered to you. However lead times may vary from product to product due to the availability of the materials used.

Once your order has been placed, products will be placed into production almost immediately. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel your order, as once products have been placed into production, cancellations will not be possible.

We can also make the majority of our jewellery in solid gold, so if you are interested in a particular piece please do get in touch with our Clients team on clients@alighieri.co.uk.

Please be aware that as made to order products are one-offs, they cannot be returned for a refund or exchange.

Prices and Payment

We endeavour to keep prices of Goods updated and accurate, though from time to time there may be inaccuracies or changes to price. Changes to price will not affect any order you have already placed. Prices for our Goods are subject to change without notice.

It is always possible that Goods on our Website may be incorrectly priced. In this case, we will not send your order until you have confirmed that you accept the new price or if you wish to cancel your order.

Banking charges by the receiving bank on payments to us will be absorbed by us. All other charges relating to payment in a currency other than Great British Pounds will be absorbed by you.

The Price of a product includes UK VAT (where applicable).

The Price of a Product does not include delivery charges. Our delivery charges will be advised during the checkout process, before you place your order.

We accept all major credit and debit cards, which are clearly shown at the checkout. We also accept payment via PayPal. When selecting the PayPal option at checkout, you will be directed to the PayPal site to review the amount, before completing the transaction and being returned to our Website.

You confirm that the payment method used is yours or that you have been specifically authorised by the owner to use it. All credit/debit card holders are subject to validation checks and authorisation by the card issuer. If the issuer of your payment card refuses to authorise payment to us, we will not be liable for any delay or non-delivery.

If any product is out of stock, you will be refunded in full.

Payment by Clearpay

Clearpay is a payment service that lends customers a fixed amount of credit to make purchases instantly and then pay for them in 4 automatic instalments, made every 2 weeks, without any interest (late fees apply). The service is provided by Clearpay Finance Ltd.

How do I use Clearpay?

Just shop on Alighieri.com a​nd check out as normal. At checkout, choose the Clearpay payment method. You will be directed to the Clearpay website to register and provide payment details (Visa, Mastercard or Amex). If you’ve used Clearpay before, just log in to your Clearpay account. Then complete your order!

Who can use Clearpay?

Clearpay is only available to permanent UK residents aged 18+ (excluding Channel Islands) with a UK billing address. Customers with international billing addresses will not be able to use Clearpay or create a Clearpay account. Other eligibility criteria apply. See Clearpay Terms of Service for further details.

How does the Clearpay payment schedule work?

Clearpay will split the total value of your order into 4 instalments payable every fortnight. The exact amounts and dates will be displayed for you to agree to before you confirm your purchase. If you would like to make additional unscheduled payments before they are due, you may log into your Clearpay account to make your payments early. Clearpay will then adjust the amount owed accordingly. You can log in to your Clearpay account anytime to view your payment schedule or make a payment before the next due date.

What if I can’t pay a Clearpay instalment?

If you cannot make a payment, please contact Clearpay here. As soon as you miss a payment, Clearpay will immediately stop you from making any further purchases with Clearpay.

Clearpay will give you until 11pm on the following day to make your repayment and then you will incur a late fee if you are still not able to make the payment by then. This will be an initial £6 and a further fee of £6 if the missed payment is not made within 7 days. If your order is less than £24, the total late fee will be £6. If your order is £24 or over, total late fees will not exceed 25% of the total order or £36, whichever is less. Clearpay debt may be passed to a debt collection agency and this may affect your ability to use Clearpay in future. We encourage you to use Clearpay responsibly. When will my items be delivered if I use Clearpay?

Clearpay orders are delivered within our standard delivery timeframes like any order from Alighieri.com.

Is there a limit to how much I can spend on a single Clearpay transaction?

Yes, your order value including shipping must be under £1000 to use Clearpay. Your maximum order value may be lower depending on factors such as being a new customer or your payment history.

Can I use another form of payment with Clearpay?

Yes, you may also use a gift card or promotional code with Clearpay to pay for your purchase.

How do I return or exchange an item purchased with Clearpay?

Items purchased with Clearpay follow our standard return process. Please note, refunds for Clearpay purchases will be refunded from Alighieri ​to Clearpay. We cannot provide an exchange or cash refund.

When the refund is processed, any upcoming payments you have to Clearpay will be cancelled and any payments you have already made will be refunded back to the card you paid with. Please note that until the merchant has confirmed receipt of any return goods, you will be liable to continue to make your payments to Clearpay. You can view the details by logging in to your Clearpay account.

Delivery

We endeavour to dispatch goods within 1-2 working days, however during busy periods dispatch may take slightly longer. We ship all orders through registered, recorded delivery, and are happy to help with any urgent delivery requests. Please ensure that someone is present to accept and sign for your delivery.

For pieces that are Made to Order, please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. Please note that lead times may vary from product to product due to the availability of the materials used. If we think delivery will take longer than estimated, we will communicate this to you as soon as possible after your order has been placed.

We are pleased to cover all taxes and duties on orders going to the EU and the United States. At this time we are unable to cover taxes and duties for orders to other destination countries, and these will be your responsibility. This is applicable to all products, including Made to Order and Bespoke items. 

Goods are sent at our risk until signed for by you or by any other person at the address you have given to us. We will send you a message by email to tell you when we have dispatched your order, also providing details to track your order. All solid gold pieces and bespoke products will be sent insured via DHL.

We cannot be held responsible for delays caused by customs authorities in the destination country.

Returns and Cancellations

In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase, you may return your order within 14 days of delivery for an exchange or full refund. Regrettably any returns received outside of the returns window will be refused or issued with a credit note.

In the case of a Bespoke Product (including Made to Order, Bespoke, Engraved and/or Personalised products), no refunds are available, except in the case of faulty items. We also cannot accept returns of earrings, according to best practice hygiene standards.

Items must be returned to us at Alighieri, 18 Hatton Place, London EC1N 8RU, UK, no later than 14 days from date of delivery. So far as possible, Goods should be returned: with both Goods and all packaging as far as possible in their original condition; securely wrapped; including our delivery slip; marked as ‘Return’ (on external packaging); at your risk and cost.

Please email our Clients Team prior to returning your goods at clients@alighieri.co.uk. Our standard returns form can be found here. Please include this form to ensure we can efficiently process your return. We aim to process returns within 3 working days of receipt, however during busy periods it may take us a little longer.

We are unable to cover the cost of returns. When sending your return, please include the text “return shipment to origin” on the outside of the parcel to ensure the goods are not held in customs. We cannot be held responsible for any mislabelled returns.

In the case the Goods received are faulty: you must inform us by email at clients@alighieri.co.uk, including all details of the order and defect or other reason for return. The Goods must be returned to us as soon as any defect is discovered. Goods returned will be replaced or refunded at our discretion.

If you wish to cancel your order, please notify us via email or phone as soon as possible. Regrettably, once an order has been dispatched, it cannot be cancelled, and must be returned via our standard returns method.

Repairs

If you do happen to take your heirlooms on an unexpected adventure, and they need any sort of restoration, we offer a repairs service for all our jewellery. For more information please contact our Clients Team via email.

Returns for repair should be sent back to us at the following address, using your preferred delivery method. We always advise customers to obtain a tracking number or proof of receipt for return shipments. At this time we are regrettably unable to cover the cost of shipping and duties for repairs. Repairs can also be dropped off at our Hatton Garden showroom, also based at the address below.

We will defend the intellectual property rights in connection with our Goods and Our Website, including copyright in: text, graphics, logos, icons, images, digital downloads, data, and software.

We also claim copyright in the designs and compilation of all Content of Our Website. Title and ownership rights will remain the sole property of us and we will strongly protect those rights in all countries and territories. Except as set out below, you may not copy, modify, publish, transmit, transfer, sell, reproduce, derive works from, distribute, perform, display, or in any way exploit any of the Content, in whole or in part.

You may not use our name, logos, trademarks or any other Content on any website of yours or that of any other person.

Subject to the other terms of this agreement, you may download or copy Content only for your own personal use, provided that you maintain all copyright and other notices contained in it. You may not electronically store a significant portion of any Content.

In certain circumstances and only if published credit to Alighieri (and Alighieri’s relevant social handle) is given, you may share promotional imagery found on alighieri.com through social and other channels. You may not adapt, alter or create a derivative work from any alighieri.com content or imagery prior to sharing, without prior written permission of Alighieri.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold us harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, made by any third-party due to or arising out of your breach of these Terms and Conditions or your violation of any law or the rights of any other person.

Miscellaneous Provisions

We will communicate with you by email and you agree that email communications are contractually binding in the same way as signed and dated paper sent by post.

Where we provide goods or services without specific charge to you, then it is deemed to be provided free of charge, and accordingly, there is no contractual nor other obligation upon us in respect of those goods or service nor shall we confer any benefit or obligation on any third party.

In the event that any provision of these Terms and Conditions is determined to be unlawful, void or unenforceable, such provision shall nonetheless be enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, and the unenforceable portion shall be deemed to be severed from these Terms and Conditions, such determination shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any other remaining provisions.

We are not liable for any breach of our obligations resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control.

The failure of us to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

In the event of a dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms or any contract between you and us, then you agree to attempt to settle the dispute by engaging in good faith with us in a process of mediation before commencing arbitration or litigation.

Any ambiguities in the interpretation of these Terms and Conditions shall not be construed against the drafting party.

These Terms and Conditions are effective unless and until terminated by either you or us. You may terminate these Terms and Conditions at any time by notifying us that you no longer wish to use our Services, or when you cease using our site.

These Terms and Conditions and any separate agreements whereby we provide you Services shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom. This agreement shall not be governed by the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, the application of which is hereby expressly excluded.

Other Important Terms

We currently offer 10% off your first order when signing up to our newsletter. This discount code is applicable for first time purchases only. A unique welcome code will be sent directly to your email address after signing up.

Codes cannot be combined with any other discounts. The code can be applied to any product on our website, excluding Sale, Bespoke and Made to Order products, and as well as gift cards. Refunds will take into account the discount. This code does not include shipping charges.

All credit notes, goodwill discounts and gift cards will be issued with an expiry date. Expiry dates are determined at our discretion, unless stated otherwise.

From time to time we may offer a free gift with purchase. If you wish to return an order placed during a gift with purchase promotion, all items received must be returned.

Definitions

In this agreement:

“Carrier” means any person or business contracted by us to carry Goods from us to you.

“Consumer” means any natural person who, in connection with this agreement, is acting for purposes which are outside his business.

“Our Website” means the entire computing hardware and software installation that is or supports Our Website.

“Goods” means any of the pieces we offer for sale on Our Website.

“Content” means any material in any form published on Our Website by us.
